Griffin
and Spalding County are ideally located just 35 miles south of
Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport;
Interstate 75, just minutes from the county’s industrial and
business parks, connects with I-85 and I-285 (Atlanta’s perimeter)
adjacent to the airport. International travel from the world’s
busiest airport, ground travel by means of a number of Interstates
and State Highways, or passenger and/or freight travel by rail are
all within minutes of all parts of the county. Griffin’s industrial
and business parks offer fiber optic cable and are well-suited to
business of almost any type.
Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport
Designed to accommodate 78 million total passengers per year (yet
now exceeding that number), the
Hartsfield-Jackson has implemented a master plan called “Hartsfield
2000 and Beyond” which is a 10 year, 5.4 billion capital improvement
plan which incorporates construction, renovations, and expansion for
the airport. The
addition of a fifth runway helps eliminate some delays at the
airport; the project cost approximately $1 billion including land
acquisition completed in May 2006.
Most airline
flights in the Southeastern US connect at Hartsfield and non-stop
air service is provided daily from Atlanta to more than 190 cities,
145 of those being domestic destinations. Eighty percent of the
nation’s population is within two hours’ flight time, with nearly
100% within four hours’ time. The main hub for Delta Air Lines,
Atlanta’s Hartsfield manages over 2,400 flights per day. Six
concourses with 199 gates allow efficient connections without
passengers having to enter the main terminal building (although the
trip is a treat). The 28-gate International Concourse can handle
inspection processing of 6,000 passengers per hour.
