Electric Power
Electric power is distributed in defined districts of Spalding
County by the City of Griffin/Griffin power, Georgia Power Company
or Central Georgia Electric Membership Corporation. New customers
requiring over 900 kW connected load (outside the 1973 municipal
limits) are, by state law, “choice” customers and may choose their
supplier. Spalding County is served from Georgia’s jointly owned
Integrated Transmission System (ITS); the transmission voltages are
230 kV, 115 kV, 69 kV and 46 kV.
Extremely reliable power service can
be provided to a new facility, with dual-loop feed if necessary.
Under this method of service, a fault in one source of power would
automatically result in switching to another source. Rate
information will be provided based on requirements that you provide
the GSDA.
Natural Gas
Most of Spalding County’s industrial plants are heated with natural
gas. As a result of deregulation of the natural gas industry,
customers must select an independent marketer to supply their
natural gas service; more than 15 marketers are certified by the
Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC). The natural gas is
delivered through the distribution system owned, operated and
maintained by Atlanta Gas Light Company. Gas availability is
plentiful, and the state’s natural gas rates are competitive with
most other areas of the country.
Fuel oil for industrial
use is available from several area suppliers as is coal (purchased
in carload quantities through Atlanta-area brokers). Liquefied
propane is distributed by a number of suppliers in
Spalding
County.
