Education
The future looks as bright as
the past and present; our leaders are aware that an educated
citizenry is the only way to progress in the 21st century.
Preparing our children for the transition between school and
the workplace is a top priority. The Griffin-Spalding County
Board of Education currently operates 18 schools (eleven
elementary, four middle and three high schools) and employs 1488 people, of whom more than 844 are certified
employee (670 classroom teachers) of which 557 hold advanced
degrees.
With three private schools
available, during the 2016 - 2017 school year, there were 10,359
students enrolled in the public school system (representing
91% of students).There
were 490 graduates from public schools.
Of these graduates, 129 were honor graduates, and 186
graduates received the HOPE Scholarship.
Also during this year, the county experienced a
4.7% dropout rate.
Adding to our ability to serve
both residents and the business community, Southern Crescent Technical
College contributes by offering top quality technical and
vocational instruction in a number of fields. The
Griffin-Spalding Chamber of Commerce - in conjunction with the
Board of Education - sponsors Partners in Education, a program
whose purpose it is to improve the quality of education,
and which has won five State Excellence Awards and been
recognized nationally for its results. High schools offer two
curricula: Technology/Career-Preparatory Education and College
Preparatory.
